If your jersey's letters or numbers are starting to peel off, you can fix it at home with a few simple steps. This method works best for heat-sealed craft or heat-pressed twill craft jerseys, such as NFL Nike Game Jerseys, NFL Nike Limited Jerseys, as well as NBA Replica Jerseys and Swingman Jerseys. If your jersey is screen printed , this method will not work.
Examine your jersey to locate the peeling or loose letters or numbers.
If using Steam-A-Seam, place the adhesive sheet under the peeling part. Use a pen to trace around the letter or number. Cut out the appropriate size from the Steam-A-Seam, ensuring it’s slightly smaller than the outline.
Firmly attach the cut adhesive to the back of the peeling letter or number, ensuring it sticks well to the fabric.
Lay the jersey flat on the ironing board. Cover the peeling area with a light towel to protect the fabric and the letters or numbers. If you have a Teflon sheet, you can use that instead of the towel.
Set your iron to medium to high heat, but do not use steam .
Press the iron over the covered area. Keep the iron moving to avoid burning the fabric. Apply pressure for about 15-30 seconds.
After ironing, allow the jersey to cool. Once cool, check to see if the letters or numbers are fully attached. If any parts are still loose, repeat the ironing process, adjusting the heat or duration as needed.
Once the adhesive is fully cooled and the letters are secured, smooth out the area to ensure the jersey is flat. Let the jersey sit for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to fully bond with the fabric.
By following these steps, you can effectively fix your jersey and keep it looking great for your next game or event. If you prefer professional help, consider taking your jersey to a custom apparel shop where they can use a professional heat press to reattach the letters or numbers.
